Congratulations to Emily-Rae Maxwell, our Policy and Participation Team Leader, who won the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Eastern region award for New Professional of the Year this week.
Emily-Rae came to work with us after being accepted onto the National Graduate Development Programme in 2014. She joined our housing service last year and has been a dynamic force in leading our tenant engagement team.
She came with fresh and innovative ideas, which have helped steer the team in the right direction. She stepped into a highly demanding role and has quickly proven herself to be an influential leader within the department and the council. Her leadership and refreshing approach led us to become the first council in the country to achieve the TPAS Landlord Accreditation under the new standards.
Emily-Rae was nominated by her colleagues for providing clear strategic leadership, developing members of her team and raising morale across the housing service.
Elliott Brookes, Assistant Director for Housing, said, “Congratulations to Emily-Rae for winning this well-deserved award. Over the past year she has refocused the team’s efforts, successfully recruited for a new residents' committee and been a driving force in our new approach to tenant engagement. I'm really proud that one of our dedicated employees and the hard work they carry out for the benefit of our residents has been recognised by the CIH.”
Emily-Rae said, “It was incredibly humbling to read the lovely things my team had written in the submission and I am so grateful to them for being such a hardworking and dedicated group of people. Together we have been on a whirlwind of a journey. I have never known a group of individuals so dedicated to making the Housing Service the best it can be.
“As a new manager, to even feel you have made a smidge of a difference to your team, the housing service and to our tenants is a great feeling.”
Emily-Rae will now go forward for consideration at Inside Housing and CIH’s prestigious 2017 Housing Heroes Awards in June.
