We're opening up our community grant funding to many more community groups in the borough.
We've changed our guidance so that informal groups (without a constitution) can now also apply for a community grant which supports community, voluntary, arts and sporting groups in projects and activities that benefit residents of the borough.
The next round of community grant funding closes at 12pm on Friday 26 May.
To apply, projects must demonstrate they seek to work in partnership with other groups and meet at least one of our priorities and at least two of the five Ways to Wellbeing outcomes.
In the past, community grants have funded Berkhamsted Local History and Museum to display the Alderney Bayeux Tapestry to mark the 950th anniversary of the Saxon submission to the Normans. They have also helped Age UK hire minibuses to take service users to ‘friendship teas’ to combat social isolation. We've also assisted Herts Inclusive Theatre to launch a theatre group at the Old Town Hall for children and young people.
Recently, we supported the Aeolian Singers to perform Elgar's Dream of Gerontius. In order to put on their major concert, they received a grant of £770 to cover hall, church and organ hire, as well as printing and publicity costs.
Grethe Hansen, Chair of Trustees, said, “The ability to perform such a difficult choral work has boosted the confidence of the choir, which no doubt will be significant both in relation to our performance in future concerts and also in our enthusiasm to promote the choir and seek new members.”
Cllr Neil Harden, Portfolio Holder for Residents and Corporate Services, said: “It is a great reward to see how the community grant funding benefits small organisations and charities and helps them develop and expand. Each community grant application is assessed on a number of factors including the impact it will have on the health and wellbeing of people in Dacorum, whether it is helping to make communities better, assisting people who are vulnerable or encouraging diversity in our community.”
