We have agreed to transfer the responsibility for Tring Sports Centre and swimming pool to Tring School, starting from 1 April 2018.
The mutually agreed decision, taken on Tuesday (13 February 2018), will see a series of improvements that will benefit the students within the school as well as the wider community.
One of the first investments funded by Dacorum Borough Council is a £1.1m refurbishment of the swimming pool and changing rooms, scheduled for summer 2018.
In addition, the school is close to agreeing the designs for the rebuilding of the school. This will include a new four-court sports hall and large dance studio.
Andrew Williams, Leader of the Council, said: “This decision will ensure that we continue to provide long-term protected community access to the facilities in Tring, while also securing our investment in facilities and providing value for taxpayers' money. It enables the development of a new sports hall, which will create a new community facility with an estimated value of £4 million.”
The Chair of Trustees, Janis Donald, said: "The redevelopment of Tring School will be one of the largest projects of its kind taking place in the UK over the next two years, and it's right and fitting that the sports facilities will be integrated into the rebuilding of the school. The benefits of this are twofold: our students will have a seamless experience of learning and fitness whilst the public will benefit from having a school that is at the heart of the community with superb facilities.”
Tring School, a key part of the newly formed Ridgeway Learning Partnership (RLP) along with Grove Road Primary School, will be managing and operating the facilities on a not-for-profit basis. Any surplus that is made will be reinvested within RLP, including both the schools and the leisure complex.
