Councillor Rosie Sutton was elected as Mayor for Dacorum for 2018-19 by her fellow councillors in May.
As a non-political position, she will put aside council duties during the mayoral year, to concentrate on the role as the town's first citizen.
Cllr Sutton was born in Apsley and has lived in the town all her life - as had her parents, grandparents and great grandparents: a truly local lady. She was educated in Hemel Hempstead and is a regular member of the congregation of St Mary’s, Apsley, where she married husband Graham in 1977.
Cllr Sutton has spent most of her working life in Hemel Hempstead and now has an active role in running her own company with Graham, Suttons Envelopes Ltd.
She became a Ward Councillor for Woodhall Farm in June 2012 and has worked tirelessly for the local community, in particular setting up and running a social club for the local elderly residents.
It is therefore no surprise that she has chosen the Centre in the Park, a recreation centre for senior citizens in Hemel Hempstead and Dacorum, as the Mayor's charity for this year.
Cllr Rosie Sutton, said, “I'm honoured to take on the role of Mayor of Dacorum. Having lived in Hemel Hempstead my whole life, I'm passionate about making a difference to our community and, in particular, ensuring the wellbeing of all our residents. I hope to spend time this year bringing older and younger generations together and to raise money for my chosen charity, Centre in the Park.”
In addition to chairing the Council meeting, the Mayor attends many different types of functions throughout the borough. These include representing the Council at civic functions, receiving dignitaries, attending formal dinners and church services, opening events, talking to clubs and societies and visiting schools.
