Garden waste collections restart for spring

Garden waste collections have now restarted for 2019, as of Monday 25 February.

Green-lidded bins are for garden waste only, such as:

  • grass/hedge cuttings
  • leaves
  • twigs/small branches
  • flowers (including cut flowers that are kept inside the house)
  • prunings
  • weeds
  • small animal bedding made from straw, hay or woodchips (but not shredded paper)

Please note: all cardboard should be recycled in your blue-lidded bin and all food waste should go into food waste caddies. No plastic, cardboard or food waste should ever go in your green-lidded bin.

If you are unsure when your green-lidded bins are being collected, you can either consult your 2018-19 Waste Collection Calendar, or use our online postcode checking tool.

If you have a large garden, or are doing a big garden project this year, and need more than one bin, did you know you can subscribe to having additional bins?

The 2019 Additional Garden Waste Subscription Service offers you the opportunity to buy additional 240-litre green-lidded bins for £25 each (or you can use pre-existing green bins previously supplied by us if you have these). These are collected on your normal garden waste collection day for a seasonal subscription fee of £55 per bin.

The additional green-lidded bins will be collected on the same day and at the same frequency as the normal green-lidded bin collections, typically from March to November.

The regular garden waste service currently provided to householders will remain unchanged - this additional service is simply an optional extra.
