Parking bay suspensions
In some circumstances it is possible to reserve specific parking bays in a Controlled Parking Zone or on an ‘on-street’ pay and display bay - for example, for utilities works or house removals.
Suspensions temporarily prohibit parking in a particular bay or section of a bay and apply to all vehicles, unless the accompanying suspension sign advises otherwise or has been authorised by our Parking Service.
If a bay or section of a bay is suspended then advanced warning will be given (when possible) and signs will be erected on the nearest sign or lamp posts to advise motorists of the suspension details.
Any motorist who leaves their vehicle parked in a suspended bay during the signed hours will be liable to receive a Penalty Charge Notice.
Applying for a suspension
Every application for a suspension is considered on its own merits. It is essential that you provide as much information as possible, so that an informed decision can be made by the Parking Service.
Suspensions cost £20 per bay per day, and at least two weeks’ notice will be required. Exceptions may be given in emergency circumstances (such as a gas or water leak). Any request made with less than two full weeks' notice before the suspension is due to start will not be authorised.
Applicants should be advised that although a Penalty Charge Notice may be issued to vehicles parking in a suspended bay, the Parking Service does not have the power to remove vehicles.
All works contractors are advised to notify local residents by letter prior to the date of the suspension, and may need to put down cones the evening before as a secondary measure to prevent unauthorised parking.
Applications for suspensions can only be accepted by email or by letter to The Parking Service, PO Box 921, Hemel Hempstead, Herts, HP1 1ZP.
