What is the census?
The census - which is run by the Office for National Statistics - is a once-in-a-decade survey that gives us a picture of all the people and households in England and Wales - the most detailed information we have about our society.
The census will help organisations make decisions on planning and funding public services in your area, including transport, education and healthcare.
Initial results for England and Wales have now been published - find out more about the Census results.
