Building notice application

When making a building notice application, you should submit the completed application form and a general layout plan stating sizes of any extended areas.

Return the form with plans and the fee to the address as shown on the form.

You can start work after giving 48 hours' notice by either letter or email. You should also give 48 hours' notice by telephone or email (excluding Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays) at each of the following stages:

  1. Start
  2. Foundation excavation
  3. Oversite prepared
  4. Damp-proof course to walls and floor
  5. Drains laid
  6. Drains test
  7. Structural steelwork
  8. Roof structure
  9. Electrical carcass
  10. Occupation
  11. Completion

Note: Building Control may need to make other inspections during the course of the works.

Notices for inspections other than at "start" and "completion" stage may be accepted by telephone or e-mail on agreement with the appropriate Building Control officer.
