Conservation and Design
We provide specialist advice on matters relating to Listed Buildings, Conservation Areas, Registered Parks and Gardens and design aspects relating to new buildings and alterations to existing buildings in the borough.
Dacorum is renowned for its heritage and historic townscape, including over 2000 Listed Buildings and 25 Conservation Areas. There are also 30 scheduled ancient monuments and four registered historic parks and gardens.
The following pages provide information and guidance on how these important heritage assets can be preserved and enhanced to ensure Dacorum keeps it exceptional character.
The National Planning Policy Framework sets out the Government's planning policy including those on the conservation of the historic environment and requiring good design. Further national guidance on heritage assets is available from English Heritage.
