Responses to the consultation:

Over 2,000 people responded to this planning consultation. Feedback was sought on suggestions for new housing sites, possible sites for Gypsies and Travellers and on areas that should be protected from development.

Comments on site options for Gypsies and Travellers accounted for 89% of the 2,124 individual responses received by the closing date of 19 December 2008. In addition, there were seven petitions with 678 signatures.

This feedback is incorporated in a report on Gypsy and Traveller provision issues considered by Cabinet councillors on 31 March 2009.

Comments on new housing sites and other designations were considered separately from feedback on Gypsies and Travellers site options.

Site Allocations DPD: supplementary issues and options Gypsy and Traveller consultation (December 2008)

Independent consultants were commissioned to conduct a separate consultation with the Gypsy and Traveller community. This was to obtain their feedback on proposed new Gypsy and Traveller sites in the borough.
