New Mayor of Dacorum appointed

Mayor of Dacorum Councillor William Allen

Cllr William Allen has been appointed the new Mayor of Dacorum. He was sworn in at the annual Mayor Making ceremony on Wednesday 17 May 2023.

Cllr Allen has been a Dacorum Borough Councillor since 2019, representing Boxmoor, and teaches history and leads the Sixth Form at Roman Fields Academy, in Box Lane. He said: “It is a great honour to be appointed First Citizen of Dacorum, which was my childhood home and a place where I have spent a good deal of my adult and working life. It will be a privilege to represent and serve the residents of Dacorum in this exciting role.”

Cllr Allen has served on two committees - Health in Dacorum, and the Licensing and Health and Safety Enforcement Committee. Locally, he launched Four and No More - a campaign to resist high-level development around Hemel Hempstead Station in Boxmoor.

He is active in the community supporting local cricket clubs, is a committee member on Boxmoor Good Neighbours, manages the Boxmoor Drive Safe Scheme and runs the monthly charity quiz at the Post Office Arms pub on Puller Road.  He is also a trustee at Community Action Dacorum.

In view of the cost of living crisis, the Mayor will be working with our officers and those from Community Action Dacorum to establish a Mayor’s Resilience Fund that will benefit multiple charities, especially those supporting residents in greatest need.
