We have been shortlisted for Keep Britain Tidy’s 2023 Excellence in Enforcement award.

The award recognises an individual or team that has excelled in environmental crime enforcement for their organisation, and is passionate about the work they do and results achieved.

Our Enforcement team has been shortlisted for its partnership with District Enforcement - a company that specialises in enviro-crime enforcement by issuing Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to those seen littering, failing to clear up after their dog or breaching Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs).

This aim of this partnership and all enforcement is to bring about behavioural changes in the few that choose to litter within the borough. There has been a reduction in both the number of FPNs issued and prosecutions for non-payments, indicating a change in behaviour.

Cllr Julie Banks, our Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: “Being shortlisted for this award is a brilliant achievement and we’re delighted that our enforcement work has been recognised in this way.”

Just three local authorities are shortlisted in each of the nine categories, with around 100 entries received for the awards overall.

A Keep Britain Tidy spokesperson said: “Our network awards celebrate the most innovative litter, waste and space solutions developed by local authorities, often with the incredible collaboration and contribution of residents. Our hope is that these fantastic initiatives will inspire others to do the same.”

The award winners will be announced at Keep Britain Tidy’s 2023 Local Authority Network Awards in Liverpool on 9 February.
