Refurbished play areas set to open this summer

Design of new entrance to Croft Meadow Play area

We are refurbishing five play areas this summer to enhance the experience for young children across Dacorum.

Play areas in Flaunden, Croft Meadow, Tower Hill, Woodhall Farm and Apsley Lock are all temporarily closed while refurbishment work is carried out over the next few weeks. The works will see the playgrounds transformed into interactive areas for children of all ages to enjoy.

The refurbishments are part of nine sites being upgraded in the current phase of works, with one already completed at Tring Skate Park.

The play areas have been designed for children between the ages of two and 14, with a large range of play features at each of the sites, including play castles, toddler ships and sand diggers. The design of each of the play areas reflects the heritage of the local area, while incorporating the three key elements of play - active, balance and coordination.

More than £1million has been invested in these projects, with the funding sourced from a combination of £500,000 from Dacorum Borough Council and £610,000 from Community Infrastructure Levy funding – this is money we collect from developers towards local infrastructure.

Cllr Robin Bromham, our Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Operations, said: “It’s fantastic to see much-needed improvements being done to these very popular local parks. It’s wonderful that families across Dacorum will have a range of exciting new parks to visit all year round.”

The nine sites being upgraded this year are:

  • Flaunden
  • Croft Meadow
  • Woodhall Farm
  • Tower Hill
  • Apsley Lock
  • Durrants Hill
  • Miswell Lane
  • Galley Hill
  • Tring Skate Park (already completed)
