West Herts College awards us 'Skillmaker' status

We have been accredited as a 'Skillmaker' employer, in recognition of our ongoing commitment to supporting skill development in both young people and adults.

This accreditation, awarded by West Herts College as part of its Skillmakers initiative, highlights our dedication to enhancing workforce capabilities and creating employment opportunities within the local community, by supporting the College’s work.

As a 'Skillmaker' employer, we are playing a vital part in providing valuable on-the-job training opportunities for students and fostering partnerships between local businesses and West Herts College. These efforts contribute significantly to the enhancement of qualification and skills offerings that are essential for regional growth.

Gill Worgan, Principal and Chief Executive at West Herts College, emphasised the importance of collaboration between education and business. She said: "Our partnership with Dacorum Borough Council underscores the need for aligning skills development with industry demands. By bridging the gap between education and employment, we can better equip individuals with the skills needed for success in the modern workplace."

“We’re delighted to welcome Christy Woodgate (Place Officer - Economic Development) and colleagues at Dacorum Borough Council to the Skillmakers network in recognition of their continued commitment to the development of skills.”

Cllr Sheron Wilkie, our Portfolio Holder for Place, said: “We are proud to have received SkillMaker accreditation from West Herts College. We want to make Hemel Hempstead and the whole of Dacorum a great place to do business and we can have a real impact on this by bringing together businesses with our education sector to deliver the skills we need locally.”

Recognising the importance of preparing the next generation for the workforce, the Skillmakers initiative plays a crucial role in understanding and addressing evolving skill requirements. With the support of businesses across all sectors, West Herts College aims to develop a skilled workforce that meets the needs of the local economy.
