Neighbourhood Action

Neighbourhood Action gives residents and councillors the opportunity to work more closely together in identifying issues or problems in a ward. This can be done individually, with the help of your ward councillor or as a group wishing to take action against problems they have identified in their area.

There are a number of existing groups in the borough who are already working hard to identify and tackle local issues, and some of these are mentioned below. It's your local area and we want you to feel proud of this so please contact us or one of the existing  groups and take pride in where you live.

Christmas light switch-on events

There are a number of light switch-on events being held in local neighbourhood centres. Come along and join the festivities.

Making Dacorum Better Together

Have you noticed something locally that you'd like changing? For example, an area covered in litter, overgrown trees or shrubs blocking a pathway. Alternatively, perhaps you want to plan a community event to promote local ideas.

Making Dacorum Better Together is a new way of reporting issues in your area and taking action to resolve that issue, either as an individual or as a group of friends. Funding, if needed, to cover the costs of these projects is often available from a number of sources.

If you're interested in making a difference to your area, please contact your local councillor in the first instance. Alternatively, email neighbourhood.action@dacorum.gov.uk or call 01442 228000 and ask for Neighbourhood Action.

More information

We held an engagement event in October 2017. To find out more about the issues raised, please read our  Making Dacorum Better Together - findings and evaluation report (PDF 1MB).

Colourful Minds arts wellbeing programme

Colourful Minds is a free arts therapy course. Studies have shown that taking part in an arts activity has a positive influence on mental health and general wellbeing. It can increase self esteem and confidence, reduce feelings of isolation and give those involved a sense of personal achievement.

To find out more, and register an interest in joining the course, please visit our Colourful Minds page.

Youth involvement

The Neighbourhood Action team works closely with Youth Connexions, local schools and the community and voluntary sector to maximise opportunities for young people to get more involved in decision making.

Street Champions

Street Champions are volunteers who act as the ‘eyes and ears’ of the community to improve their local area. They can also act as community organisers, helping to motivate and encourage fellow residents to get involved in community events.

The sooner a problem is reported, the sooner it can be resolved. As a Street Champion, you will be helping us to remedy problems quickly by getting the information to us. The scheme is entirely voluntary and you can do as much or as little as you like.

Working with faith and cultural groups

The Neighbourhood Action team is committed to working with faith and cultural groups in Dacorum and will promote integration in and between these groups. New structures are being put in place to work with these groups and ensure that their views are incorporated in Neighbourhood Action plans.

Friends of Gadebridge Park

The Friends of Gadebridge Park (FOGP) is a group of volunteers whose primary function is to represent the views of the public and to provide a link between Dacorum Borough Council, its partners and the residents of Dacorum to ensure that Gadebridge Park is kept in good order for the residents and its visitors.

Looking ahead, the FOGP would like to engage with other groups and businesses to develop the park facilities to increase the number of visitors. By expanding its membership, it can provide a strong voice and be more representative when engaging with official bodies.

The park continues to evolve with many new and exciting developments scheduled. If you are interested in getting involved, please email rob.beauchamp56@gmail.com.
